Kari McAvoy joined EMD Consulting Group as a Partner in 2010. EMD is a firm that helps nonprofit organizations build strength. Kari works with organizations on strategy and leadership projects. For 14 years previously, Kari was with the United Way of Greater St. Louis. As the Vice President of Community Investment, she managed the allocations department that annually awarded almost $60 million in funding to local health and human services nonprofit organizations. Under Kari’s guidance, the United Way created Quality Standards, adopted new community investment and capacity building strategies, established a co- branding program, implemented new reporting and grants management software, and re-structured admissions and one-time grants.

Kari teaches “Strategic Planning and Execution” at Brown School at Washington University. She serves on a number of committees and boards. Awards include the St. Louis Business Journal “40 Under 40” and Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s President’s Award.
