Karen is a Partner at EMD Consulting Group. Her work includes business and strategic planning, financial analysis, organizational structures, benchmarking, governance, and business process re-engineering.
Before joining EMD, Karen was the Associate Director of Matthaei Botanical Gardens & Nichols Arboretum at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she managed the operations, including more than 700 acres of land, a dozen buildings, a historic public conservatory, a $4M annual budget, hundreds of volunteers and 65 staff members. Previously, she was the Finance & Budget Manager for the College of Literature, Science & the Arts where she oversaw a $500M annual budget, including establishing performance metrics and reporting. Before joining the University, she worked as a public sector management consultant at the state a local levels, conducting operational reviews, business planning, feasibility studies, legislative analysis and organizational structure assessments.
She holds a Masters of Public Administration from San Francisco State University, a Project Manager Certificate from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and a BA from the University of Michigan College of Literature Science & the Arts. She is the chair of the American Public Gardens Association Finance & Operations professional section and the prior chair of the College & University Garden section.
